Denbigh & District ABC is pulling no punches thanks to support of Jones Bros26th Feb 2024

Jones Bros is helping Denbigh & District Amateur Boxing Club land a knockout blow.

The civil engineering contractor has thrown its support behind the talented group of fighters, five of whom travelled south for finals of the Welsh Boxing Novice Championships.

After cruising through the preliminary rounds and quarter-finals at Plas Madoc Leisure Centre in Acrefair, Wrexham, Harri Watkin Jones, Harry Windsor, and brothers Tomos and Seth Evans, joined Scott O’Shaughnessy, who secured a direct route to the main event, in heading to Ebbw Vale.

Harri and Tomos were able to clinch semi-final successes, with Harri becoming the 2024 71kg Welsh Boxing Novice champion courtesy of a victory in his title showdown with an opponent from Premier ABC in Swansea.

The impressive performances in South Wales were made possible by Jones Bros, which provided the transport for the trip as part of its continued assistance.

Denbigh & District ABC coach Tony Murphy, who is head of business management systems and support at the Ruthin-headquartered civil engineering firm, said: “Everyone at the boxing club extends a heartfelt gratitude to Jones Bros for its steadfast support and unwavering commitment.

“It is great to have a local company like Jones Bros by our side. There has always seemed to be a special connection between the two given they both started out in the region around the same time many, many years ago.

“Jones Bros is always looking to support the community by enhancing the quality of life, and its contribution to our success is pivotal, with its backing an absolute gamechanger for us.”

Tony is one of five qualified coaches at the club, working alongside Peter Mackie, Nathan Hanika, Neil Evans, and Les Jones.

Anyone keen to join Denbigh & District ABC’s journey can contact Tony on 07768 375714 to find out more about sponsorship opportunities.

There was further success for the Jones Bros family as Rhys Evans, son of company fitter Rowland Evans, became the 2024 57kg Welsh Boxing Novice champion.

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.

The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, waste management, and renewable energy around the UK.
