The Jones Bros Group has been operating for over 50 years and predominantly provides complete civil engineering solutions for a range of projects across the UK with an extensive track record in Renewables and energy, Waste management facilities & landfill engineering, Highways & Rail, Infrastructure including business and industrial parks and Flood, Coastal & Marine Infrastructure.


To support of the delivery of these projects, we continue to develop our in-house expertise, employing over 500 people across all project delivery trades and grades including engineers, project managers, contract programmers, works managers and operatives. The Lead Estimator will play a key role. Based out of our head office in Ruthin, with some remote working a realistic possibility, you will also visit some of our projects and sites as required. Working as part of a talented team and benefiting from their support, you will be given plenty of exposure to a range of interesting challenges within a collaborative working environment. We are open to speaking with Estimating professionals, and/or people with significant site/project experience but now seeking a different challenge. However, engineering knowledge/experience is key.


Responsibilities will include:


  • Maintaining tendering process and liaising with Contract Managers and other regional offices within the company.
  • Ensuring all proposed contracts and terms and conditions are reviewed.
  • Compiling the tender documentation into the required format for submission; administration of tender documents.
  • Using the company estimating software to build up a bid price from our resource library.
  • Preparing and following up enquiries for procurement of quotes from material suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Analysing drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimates.
  • Preparing and submitting quotations for work.
  • Visiting sites and recording information about access, drainage and topography, and availability of services such as water and electricity.


To be considered for this important position you will be able to demonstrate significant experience within estimating roles and exposure to a range of civil engineering projects. You may hold a HNC, HND or degree in relevant subjects such as Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction, or Quantity Surveying; however we are also interested in speaking with those qualified by experience only. In addition, you will possess:


  • Strong awareness of the various forms of contract and Method of Measurements used in the construction industry
  • Demonstrable ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Highly developed professional communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy with good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and, ideally, estimating software


More generally, you will need to be committed, reliable, flexible in terms of travel and range of tasks performed, have a good teamworking ethic, and high level of attention to detail.
