A temporary job while studying for A levels led to a career path in payroll for Kizzy Sullivan.
Kizzy, who is 25, joined Jones Bros in 2009 to carry out a project to update a HR and payroll database.
She went on to work part-time in the accounts office, while completing A levels in English, history and sociology at Yale College, Wrexham.
Upon finishing college, Kizzy was offered a full-time job as a payroll assistant.
She said: “I did not want to go to university. Now I’ve done lots of training with the company. I studied for a national certificate in payroll administration and now I’m in my second year of a foundation degree in payroll management, delivered by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals.
“I like working at Jones Bros because of the people. That was the reason I accepted the full-time job. Because I’d been working here already, I knew it was a friendly company with local people and people who had been working here for years.
“Everyone is helpful and works together well.”
Kizzy, who lives in Ruthin and attended Ysgol Brynhyfryd in the town, has seen plenty of changes over her eight year tenure, as the company has grown.
“I guess we had around 250 people when I arrived. We’ve got 350 now. We outgrew our head office on Denbigh Road and now we are in the bigger building that is Ty Glyn.
“The computer systems have changed dramatically as we now use COINS.
If you want to get on and do something like a training course, the company really likes it. I wanted to do something for my future and they are supporting me all the way.”
Kizzy works with payroll manager, Sharon Lewis, in an office shared with the HR department.
She also has family connections with the company.
Her father, Ian Wareing used to be Jones Bros’ IT manager.
