Jones Bros announces further wind farm contract22nd May 2013

Award-winning civil engineering company Jones Bros has won a contract to build infrastructure for a wind farm in Northamptonshire.

Work on the £24m Yelvertoft wind farm is due to start in June and, once operational, it will provide enough electricity to power the equivalent of almost 10,000 households.

The family-owned firm is now one of the UK’s most experienced companies in wind farm construction.

It will develop the balance of plant for the eight-turbine wind farm in a £3.8m contract.

It is carrying out the work on behalf of AES Wind Generation, following a successful partnership on a previous wind farm project at Sixpenny Wood in Yorkshire.

The 80 metre turbines are being supplied by Repower and the project is expected to be fully operational by March 2013, when it will generate 43,000-45,600 MWh in a typical year during its 25-year lifetime.

Huw Jones, managing director of Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK, based in Ruthin, north Wales, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this exciting project and working with AES again. “Working with local suppliers where possible will be a priority for us. We always aim to ensure businesses in the surrounding area are also able to benefit from a project.”

Steve Hunter, project director, AES Wind Generation, said: “We are pleased that we’ll soon be starting construction at Yelvertoft Wind Farm. We will be working with very experienced contractors, like Jones Bros, with whom we have excellent working relationships and we are confident they will carry out all works to our high standards.”

Founded in the 1950s and employing 270 people, Jones Bros has grown rapidly in the last decade.

It is currently working on contracts in various sectors including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence and renewable energy projects around the UK.
