Jones Bros backs calls for more women in engineering23rd Jun 2016

Jones Bros is backing National Women in Engineering Day (NWED) – an awareness campaign aimed at raising the profile of women in engineering.

The campaign wants to encourage more girls and women into the engineering sector as they currently make up fewer than ten per cent of the workforce.

The UK has the lowest percentage of female engineering professionals in Europe and the hope is that by encouraging more females into the industry, it will also help to address a looming skills gap.

Lisa Tudor, a chartered quantity surveyor at Jones Bros is supporting NWED, as well as giving her backing to ‘Your Life,’ a national campaign which aims to inspire more young people, particularly girls, to study maths and physics, leading to careers in science, technology and engineering

“I’m keen to do all I can to encourage more girls into the industry, ’’ said Lisa. “I particularly think more women should think about a career in quantity surveying, though I do believe things are getting better.

“I’m noticing more young women coming on to site for work experience now, which wasn’t really the case when I first started out.”

Lisa completed a degree in mathematics, statistics and operational research at Cardiff University and achieved an MSc in quantity surveying from Salford University.
