A leading civil engineering firm has helped Sanquhar II Wind Farm reach a significant construction milestone, with all 44 turbine foundations now complete.
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK is the principal contractor for the £400 million scheme that will have the capacity to power more than 335,000 homes annually.
The CWP Energy-led development, which spans Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire, will be the fourth largest wind farm in the UK once operational.
Supported by Cambrian Services, Jones Bros successfully completed the pours, with all concrete produced on site. This helped reduce vehicle movements, fuel consumption, and associated emissions, while streamlining delivery.
Jones Bros senior contracts manager David Nicolson said: “The completion of all 44 turbine foundations, on time and on budget, marks the culmination of a substantial programme of civil engineering works.
“Delivering this successfully has depended on the expertise and commitment of our site teams, alongside effective planning and coordination throughout the construction process.
“Our on-site batching has helped us manage the demands of the foundation pours, improving efficiency and reducing vehicle movements associated with concrete deliveries.
“It’s rewarding to reach this milestone and see the progress being made at Sanquhar II Wind Farm.”
The completed foundations have paved the way for the installation of the UK’s most powerful onshore wind turbine.
The three-bladed V162-6.2MW EnVentus model, the only one of its kind installed to date in the UK, is designed to harness the high wind speeds across Southern Scotland.
Turbine installation is ongoing, with first power from Sanquhar II expected in late 2026.
Rod Wood MBE, managing director of CWP Energy, said: “Reaching the final concrete pour is a significant milestone for the Sanquhar II Wind Farm project.
“With 44 turbine foundations now completed, it is testament to the hard work, expertise, and collaboration of everyone involved.
“We’d like to thank Jones Bros and all our project partners for their commitment in helping bring this important renewable energy scheme a step closer to completion.”
Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 570 people.
The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, reservoirs, waste management, and renewable energy around the UK.
The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced a large percentage of its current workforce, with several of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited hundreds of apprentices over the years.
