Jones Bros MD named director of the year12th Apr 2011

THE head of civil engineering firm Jones Bros was named North Wales director of the year at an award ceremony recognising outstanding business people across Wales.

Huw Jones, managing director of the family-run company, was awarded the title at the Institute of Directors (IoD) Wales Director of the Year Awards 2011.

Wrexham-based recruitment firm gap personnel sponsored the North Wales Director of the Year category. The company’s operations director, Mark Roberts, presented Huw with his award at the ceremony in Cardiff.

Huw said: “This award is testament to the hard work put in by all of our dedicated employees at various projects throughout the UK.

“This is an award for the whole company, not just me, and I would like to thank our entire workforce for their contribution.”

Mark said: “gap personnel was founded in North Wales 14 years ago, and we have always received strong support from our loyal customer base in the region.

“We are pleased to be showing our support for the regional business scene and would like to congratulate Huw on this fine accolade.”

Founded in the 1950s, Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK employs 270 people and has its national headquarters in Ruthin, Denbighshire.

The company is working on 20 projects around the UK including the £35m Porthmadog bypass in a joint venture with Balfour Beatty. It has grown considerably in the past decade to become one of the UK’s leading civil engineering firms.

The IoD is Europe’s largest membership organisation for business leaders. Its Wales division is made up of nearly 1,000 directors and senior business leaders.

The awards scheme complements the IoD’s UK-wide awards programme, with Welsh winners going forward to this year’s UK event.
