A leading civil engineering contractor has started work on the next phase of a 150-acre business park in Cheshire.
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has been appointed by the developers of the Cheshire Green Industrial Park (Cheshire Green) to design and construct a 1km spine road through the development, as well as the junction to each of the 10 units.
As part of the highways project, the family-run company will install a drainage system and carry out kerbing, surfacing, and landscaping.
The contract win continues Jones Bros’ working relationship with Cheshire Green following its construction of a roundabout in 2018, which provides access to the £100m industrial park from the A51.
Gareth Jones, project manager, said: “It’s exciting to carry on playing a role in the construction of Cheshire Green, and we’re looking forward to seeing it develop in the coming weeks and months.
“It’s providing our workforce with a slightly different viewpoint of a highways project because we’re working on a disused airfield. The site is flat to ensure safe take-offs and landings for aircraft, which presented a challenge to design a drainage system that allowed for surface water to drain away correctly and effectively.
“To overcome this, we are installing deeper drainage, up to seven metres deep in some sections, compared to typical projects which are between one and two metres deep.
“In addition, we are working in close proximity to a canal, so we are taking extra precautions to avoid contamination.”
Cheshire Green is on the A51 between Calveley and Barbridge, and next to Boughey Distribution. The location benefits from its easy connections with key motorways including the M6 and M56 as well as the A55 in North Wales.
The units, which are ideal for industrial, warehouse, distribution and storage use, will have access to superfast fibre broadband as well as ample parking and a frequent bus service. Legat Owen and Fisher German are marketing the units.
Phillip Posnett, director of the developer, said: “We are committed to creating a major employment destination here at Cheshire Green. Having been granted consent, we will waste no time in delivering this access which will completely open up the site.
“Jones Bros was fantastic to deal with for the roundabout, and I’m confident their quality of work will come to the fore once more with the construction of the spine road.”
Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros has a wealth of experience in highway schemes.
The company is now being run by the second and third generations of the founding family and employs more than 350 people.
In addition to highways, it is currently working on contracts in various sectors including the construction of waste management facilities, renewable energy, and flood and marine defence projects across the UK.
