Design and build balance of plant contract for the civils and electrical infrastructure for six Siemens 3.0MW turbines.

The site is located in North Ayrshire, on the west coast of Scotland, and has significant peat coverage. The steep terrain required careful design by our in-house roads designer to achieve the necessary gradients for delivery of the large turbines, with hub heights of 74.5m and blade lengths of 50m.  Extensive environmental mitigation including settlement ponds, and silt control measures were adopted to ensure local burns were not affected. The rock for the site construction was won from onsite borrowpits, and processed using our in-house quarry experience.

Works included:

  • Construction of all site access tracks
  • Six turbine foundations (including one requiring 5m over-excavation and upfill with onsite processed rock)
  • Construction of substation/switchroom building including installation of water harvester
  • Electrical installation
