Rebeca Jones is eager to continue inspiring the next generation of civil engineers after completing 12 months as part of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Wales Foundation Group.
The current cohort’s mission is to shape the future of the industry, and the Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK Quantity Surveyor has been playing a central role.
A brochure spotlighting civil engineering career pathways, jobs, and case studies was created by the group, with Rebeca and fellow member Gruff Roberts translating it into Welsh.
Aimed at key stage four pupils, the in-depth document was launched at the CECA Wales Awards 2026 in spring and later distributed at the Royal Welsh Show, with the six-strong foundation team currently seeking opportunities to present the information in schools.
The group is also gearing up to take part in Careers Wales’ Work in Focus challenges, creating five lessons for year eight and nine learners that showcase civil engineering scenarios in a bid to embed real-life work-related experiences within the curriculum.
Rebeca said: “It’s been a busy year and we’re proud to have produced this high-quality brochure that we hope will encourage more young people to join the sector after reading our members’ own career journeys.
“The brochure shows that there are multiple routes into civil engineering, with myself taking the university path and some of my colleagues entering via apprenticeship programmes. There’s really something for everyone.
“Ed Evans (CECA Wales Director) has also been great at supporting us throughout the year with ideas and we’re looking forward to building on the momentum we’ve gained across the past few months to attract more talent.”
A stronger social media presence has also been on the agenda, with the group’s LinkedIn page featuring weekly posts including latest sector news, toolbox talks, and key awareness days such as Women in Engineering Week.
The team is further demonstrating their commitment to young people by running the Cardiff Half Marathon this October to raise vital funds for Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity, which provides financial aid for 15 to 35-year-olds diagnosed with cancer in Wales.
Rebeca added: “I’m training hard at the moment to prepare for the event, and I really hope we can raise as much as possible to donate to this brilliant cause which the CECA Wales Foundation Group already has such strong links to from our past support.”

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.
The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, reservoirs, waste management and renewable energy around the UK.
The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited hundreds of apprentices over the years.
