Ruthin students team up with civil engineering company to marshall Tour of Britain cycle race19th Sep 2013

Ysgol Brynhyfryd and Jones Bros worked in tandem to ensure the Tour of Britain cycle race passed through Ruthin without a hitch.

Sixth form pupils from the school borrowed high-visibility jackets from the civil engineering firm to help with marshalling duties when the tour passed along Mold Road on Wednesday, September 18.

The tour, which saw Olympic champion Sir Bradley Wiggins pass through Denbighshire as part of a six-strong Team Sky contingent, travelled across North Wales on day four of the week-long event.

Teacher John Carrington said everyone at Ysgol Brynhyfryd was looking forward to witnessing the four-time Olympic gold medalist and Tour de France winner in action.

John said: “It was a great occasion, with the whole of the school out to watch the riders go by.”

“We got in touch with Jones Bros, who kindly agreed to help our sixth form students stay safe while marshalling the event.”

Jones Bros Commercial Manager Ruth James said: “We were more than happy to help the pupils with some high visibility clothing for the Tour of Britain.”
