Votes add up for award-winning Jones Bros financial director21st Nov 2013

The finance director of a leading civil engineering company based in North Wales has been awarded a top industry accolade.

Osian ab Ifan, who joined Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK eight years ago, was named Best Finance Director of the Year North Wales at the 2013 Finance Director Awards.

Osian was recognised at the awards, held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Liverpool, for his enthusiasm and commitment to Ruthin-based Jones Bros’ significant growth during his time at the company.

Osian said: “The awards were looking for unsung heroes that support companies that are developing, which Jones Bros certainly has during the time I’ve been here.

“I started about eight years ago, and in that time we’ve added more than 100 employees to the books, which shows real development.

“It was great to win, but really it’s an award for us all collectively here at Jones Bros.

“There have been tough times for every business since 2008, particularly in our industry, but we’ve shown continued development and success.”

The awards, supported by Accountable Recruitment, Grant Thornton, Hill Dickinson and HSBC, commended the North West and North Wales’ leading financial directors and CFOs.

Neil Sturmey, partner and head of Grant Thornton’s Liverpool office, said Osian was a deserved winner after nominating him for the award.

He said: “Osian works within a family firm that has shown fantastic growth during his time there.

“Having worked outside of North Wales previously, he’s brought expertise and skills back to the region and applied them to a company that is expanding rapidly.

“The awards celebrate the best finance directors and their teamwork in helping lead their organisations out of recession.”

Founded in the 1950s and employing 300 people, Jones Bros operates across the UK in sectors including highways, coastal and flood protection, waste management facilities and renewable energy, specialising in wind and hydro and infrastructure for nuclear, gas and coal generation.
