Activity at the landfill site in Markham Vale, Chesterfield, was split into three areas:
- Leachate reception area
- Permanent capping
- Cell 4a, 4b, and asbestos cell extension.
Works included:
- Constructing a fully contained concrete leachate reception area, including a completely automated leachate extraction system
- Permanent capping activity that featured 21,000m2 of fully welded LLDPE and protector geotextiles and two layers of restoration soils
- Removing 108,000m3 of soil
- Installation of a ground water extraction system with 700m fully welded HDPE pipework into chamber and pumping system
- Installation of 35,000m3 of engineered barrier and 35,000m2 of fully welded HDPE and protector geotextile
- Installation of full leachate extraction system featuring bespoke chambers with 800m of HDPE pipework and filter geotextile
- Installation of internal haul road and turnaround pad
- Geophysical detection on all cells
