Jones Bros plays its part as Doon Academy netballers are dressed to impress12th Feb 2025

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has made sure that Doon Academy’s netball teams look the part off the court as they bid to impress on it.

The contractor has sponsored the secondary school, helping them secure hoodies for the 20-strong playing squad to travel to and from games in.

Based in Dalmellington, Doon Academy is situated just 15 minutes away from North Kyle Wind Farm, the 49-turbine scheme on which Jones Bros is principal contractor.

It further strengthens the company’s desire to give back to the community in which it works, with project manager Elliot Bidmead saying: “It means so much to the netballers, and that is exactly why we take part in these initiatives.

“Doon Academy has had a rough time recently, due to storm damage, so to help put a smile on the face of some of the pupils has been fantastic. During our visit, the netballers were very thankful.

“We always try to assist where we can, and with works manager Alistair Stuart’s two daughters playing for the team, it also perfectly aligned with our family values.”

Jones Bros is also hoping to organise a site visit to North Kyle for Doon Academy’s engineering classes, as well as engage with pupils at the school’s careers fair.

Acting headteacher Martin Robertson was thrilled with the support offered, saying: “We can’t thank Jones Bros enough for the fantastic gesture.

“The girls can turn up for netball matches looking and feeling the part before they take to the court and compete for Doon Academy.

“We’d love to form a partnership with Jones Bros to further shine a light on the world of civil engineering and the options available for our students.”

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.

The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, waste management and renewable energy around the UK.

The company continues to run apprenticeships with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited hundreds of apprentices over the years.
