Jones Bros lends the Ruthin Triathlon a helping hand through sponsorship7th May 2025

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has provided crucial support to athletes of all ages taking part in the Ruthin triathlon.

The firm has demonstrated its commitment to giving back to the local community after sponsoring the annual event – a major sporting date in the calendar that sees individuals from far and wide gather to take part.

Hosted by Denbighshire Triathlon Club, known as Ruthin TriStars Junior Triathlon Club, the races formed part of this year’s Welsh Junior Race Series, with 120 youngsters and 80 adults competing across seven different categories.

Races included the youth sprint for 15-to-16-year-olds, the Tristars start race for eight-year-olds, and Tristars one, two, and three for those aged 9 to 10, 11 to 12, and 13 to 14 respectively.

Jones Bros provided barriers and sponsored towels for the transition area, with contracts manager Eryl Evans and his daughters, Mali (12) and Elin (9), competing on the day.

Eryl said: “Without backing like this, it wouldn’t have been possible to host the triathlon, especially as the Ruthin TriStars Junior Triathlon Club is run entirely by volunteers, so the support from Jones Bros has been fantastic.

“Overall, the sponsorship has made a real difference in helping the races run smoothly.”

Eryl completed his 400m swim, 24km cycle, and 5km run in just under two hours.

He continued: “I made a deal with my daughters, who are both members of the Tristars, to take part and although I hadn’t prepped much beforehand, I really enjoyed the opportunity to get involved and I know my children loved it.”

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.

The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, waste management and renewable energy around the UK.

The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years.
