Tributes have been paid to former Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK general foreman, Robert Medwyn Roberts, who passed away at age 83.
Known by the name of Med Parc and later as Med Bettws, the Denbighshire native enjoyed a long-standing career at the firm, working on major projects across Wales such as the Holywell bypass, Northop bypass, Ruabon bypass, and the Conwy tunnel.
Medwyn’s time at Jones Bros also saw him undertake a variety of road schemes on the A55, alongside projects on the Colwyn Bay bypass and the South Wales M4 Cross Hands.
Having grown up operating agricultural machinery on a farm with his dad, Medwyn later expanded his skillset by working with his brother, Trevor, constructing Clywedog Dam before joining Jones Bros.
His love and respect for farm life and animals saw him harbour deep connections with the farming community and help build numerous farm roads as part of his role as a foreman.
Medwyn leaves behind his children, Kevin and Susan; his grandchildren, Gemma, Daniel, Sophie, Stephen, Sarah, and Matthew; and his seven great-grandchildren.
Jones Bros contracts director Hefin Lloyd-Davies said: “Medwyn was well-respected by the people he worked with here at Jones Bros, and his commitment to always giving his best is truly something to be admired.
“With expertise in multiple disciplines, his technical skills were matched only by his ability to foster strong teamwork through his approachable and down-to-earth nature.
“Having Medwyn on board for so many years was brilliant, and we are forever grateful for his hard work and contributions.”
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK chairman Huw Jones MBE said “Medwyn’s passion for civil engineering is evident in all his achievements and successes gained during his time with us.
“During our early days, Medwyn was the first to operate one of our first large pieces of machinery, playing a vital role in helping us to grow.
“His leadership and guidance was truly instrumental in guiding our team members day to day and inspiring the next generation to follow in his footsteps and he will be dearly missed.”
Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.
The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, waste management and renewable energy around the UK.
