Jones Bros engineers have succeeded in completing a 4.5km access road to a major new environmental centre two weeks ahead of schedule.
The road formally opened on 7th August and was completed two weeks early thanks to swift work from Jones Bros’ team of engineers and construction workers.
The new road will service the Greatmoor Energy from Waste (EfW) facility, a multi-million pound project that is currently under construction.
Contracts manager Geraint Thomas, said: “We are delighted to have completed the access road two weeks ahead of schedule. Careful planning and efficient execution of the job has contributed to its success and we have been lucky to have the weather on our side for the past six weeks.”
The project involved construction of the access road along a former railway track, incorporating three road bridges across it.
Repairs to one of the overhead bridges were also completed ahead of schedule by Jones Bros, resulting in a lengthy traffic diversion for motorists using a public highway underneath being removed a month early.
Buckinghamshire County Council awarded the contract to FCC Environment in 2013 to build and operate an EfW facility at Greatmoor, near Calvert. The council has identified that the project will save Bucks taxpayers more than £150m over the 30-year life of the contract.
