Jones Bros has won a national award for its commitment to providing high quality training.
The Ruthin-based civil engineering contractor was among the winners at the 2014 Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Pride of Construction Awards. The firm won the Outstanding Training Partner category for its excellence in delivering a range of training and accreditations.
The awards, which marked the CITB’s 50th anniversary, celebrated the achievements of individuals, companies and training partners throughout the UK construction industry.
Jones Bros’ health, safety, environment, quality and training manager Dave Gibson said: “It’s a fantastic honour for Jones Bros to be named the winner in what was a very competitive category.
“To be named the best in the UK really shows just how committed everybody here is to providing the highest quality training possible to build our workers’ skills.
“The award also highlights the fantastic working partnership we have with the CITB, which is involved in a lot of the courses we run at the training centre.”
Jones Bros runs a number of CITB accredited courses and apprenticeship programmes from its dedicated training centre. They include training in mobile construction plant operation, plant maintenance, health and safety and environmental management.
The purpose-designed training and testing facility has a 100-acre area where trainees can practise operating plant. The centre is also available for hire by external companies.
Speaking at the awards, Stephen Radley, Director of Policy for CITB said: “Tonight has been a great opportunity to showcase the best of British construction talent.
“It’s been terrific to see so many people recognised for their work and hear real stories about the people who have built successful construction careers and left a lasting legacy for generations to enjoy. You can’t help but feel very, very proud”.
Jones Bros recently took part in a CITB event celebrating the achievements of North Wales’ construction companies. The event, which formed part of the CITB’s 50th anniversary celebrations, saw Dave Gibson and recently-retired training manager Ken Jones speak about the company’s growth over the last five decades.
Founded in the 1950s, Jones Bros employs a total of 300 people. It operates across the UK in sectors including construction of waste management facilities, highways and renewable energy projects such as wind farms.
