A CIVIL engineering firm has extended its reach in the south of England by securing a £1.2m waste management contract covering Bedfordshire.
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has been awarded the contract by Waste Recycling Group (WRG).
The deal will see Jones Bros carrying out earthworks at four landfill sites across Bedfordshire.
The contract represents an extension of Jones Bros’ relationship with WRG, following the awarding last year of a three-year £6m framework contract covering south west England.
Stuart Mitchell, senior engineering manager at WRG, said: “We have been extremely impressed by Jones Bros’ professional approach to the south west contract, and also by their work at the Brogborough landfill site in 2011.”
He added: “Jones Bros has built a reputation with us based on quality, honesty and a proven track record.
“Their non-adversarial yet proactive approach is the main reason we are looking forward to continuing the close working relationship we have with them.
“It’s also why we negotiated with them to extend the boundary of the existing contract, rather than traditionally re-tendering the region.”
Family-owned Jones Bros, which has its UK headquarters in North Wales, was founded in the 1950s and has more than 20 years’ experience in landfill cell construction.
The company opened a regional office in Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire last year and it is from this base that the Bedfordshire contract will be managed.
Jones Bros contracts manager Geraint Thomas said: “We are delighted to be building on our strong relationship with WRG.
“This latest contract underlines our reputation as one of the fastest-growing waste management contractors in the south of England.”
Jones Bros currently employs 270 people and also has regional offices in Swansea, Inverness and Linlithgow near Falkirk.
Jones Bros apprenticeship scheme is also open to employees of other companies, and in many cases, grant-aided assistance is available.
As well as construction skills, specialised courses are available in everything from safety awareness to emergency first aid.
