Rally driving civil engineering contracts manager Hefin Lloyd-Davies is on the road to success after his employer Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK agreed to sponsor him to compete in a high profile motor sports event.
Hefin is now busy preparing for the Wales Rally GB National Three Day event that comes to North Wales from 15-17 November, the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship.
Hefin, who lives in Betwss GG, near Corwen, will compete in his Vauxhall Corsa in the B Class with his navigating partner Mark Lewis and will realise a long-held ambition by taking part.
“I’ve taken part in many contests but have always wanted to compete in the Wales Rally GB,” said Hefin. “However it can be an expensive sport to pursue so I am really grateful to my employers for sponsoring me and for me the Wales Rally GB organizers for re-formatting the event this year and making it much more affordable and accessible for the amateur rally driver to take part.
“I’m looking forward to competing on home ground and a road section of the rally on the Sunday passes past my home, which cannot be more local!”
The rallying series, organised by the FIA, the governing body of motorsport, culminates in North Wales with a champion driver and a champion manufacturer.
Hefin has driven rally cars as a hobby for more than 20 years, sharing his passion with his brothers Arwyn and Gareth.
The brothers developed a keen interest in cars as youngsters through local events organised by Bala and District Motorclub.
“My parents were members of a motor club and we were always around cars or tinkering with them and doing them up,” continued Hefin who has a 21-month-old son and a second child on the way.
“Although I have had breaks from motorsport, when I went to college, in the early days of my career and when my son was born, I have always enjoyed the sport and hope to do Jones Bros proud.”
Hefin has worked as a contracts manager for Ruthin-based family firm Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK for 20 years. Managing director Huw Jones said: “We are very proud of Hefin’s achievements and are really pleased to sponsor him. We’ll all be watching the rally and wishing him well.”
Hefin is also receiving sponsorship from E. Flood Construction of Chester; ABC Steel Reinforcing Limited; GHA Coaches and Harry Hockley Motor Sport of Newton.
