THE head of civil engineering firm Jones Bros was honoured at a national award ceremony recognising outstanding business people across Britain.
Huw Jones, managing director of the Ruthin-based company, was highly commended in the family business category at the Institute of Directors (IoD) awards in London on Friday (Sept 23).
He qualified for the UK final of the Director of the Year awards after being named North Wales director of the year by the IoD earlier this year.
Huw was one of only two company directors to be highly commended in the ‘Family Business’ category at the ceremony,, held at the Lancaster Hotel and compered by former minister Michael Portillo.
Huw said: “I was delighted to be highly commended in these prestigious awards and believe it is testament to the hard work put in by all of our dedicated employees at various projects throughout the UK.
“This is an award for the whole company, not just me, and I would like to pay tribute to our loyal workforce for their contribution.”
The IoD is Europe’s largest membership organisation for business leaders. Its Wales division is made up of nearly 1,000 directors and senior business leaders.
The nomination follows a series of accolades recently achieved by family-firm Jones Bros.
They include awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE); the Institute of Directors; the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), a CEEQUAL Outstanding Achievement Award for work at Parc Cybi in Anglesey and a Considerate Constructor Bronze Award for its work on a coastal defence scheme at Tywyn in mid-Wales.
The company was also nominated for the title of ‘Tomorrow’s Company’ in the recent Construction News Awards, considered to be the industry ‘Oscars’.
