Jones Bros helps Denbigh & District ABC stage long-awaited knockout show20th May 2025

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK’s heavyweight support of Denbigh & District Amateur Boxing Club helped the sport stage a show in the town for the first time in more than two decades.

A 16-bout show marked a major milestone for Denbigh and the club alike as a packed crowd gathered at the town hall for an afternoon of grassroots boxing.

Clubs from across Wales travelled to compete, including Wrexham ABC, Llandudno ABC, Maelor ABC from Cefn Mawr, Holyhead-based Draig Goch ABC, and Dyffryn ABC, which is situated in Colwyn Bay.

There was also opposition from over the border as Bolton’s Round4Round ABC and Hamer ABC from Manchester sent fighters to Denbigh.

Sponsorship from Jones Bros, via its Kinmel Bay coastal defence project, helped towards venue and ring hire, medical cover, new vests and shorts for boxers, and expenses for judges and referees.

The show will have a lasting impact on the club and its future aspirations, with coach Tony Murphy saying: “Denbigh & District ABC has been able to run a show, involving 36 young aspiring boxers, in the town for the first time in more than 20 years.

“The money raised will enable the club to attend local and national competitions in the future and will support the young athletes to develop their fitness, discipline, confidence, mental wellbeing, inclusivity, and national Welsh pride.

“This backing also helps establish the foundation of the club as it bids to deliver two shows per year for the foreseeable future.”

Tony, who works at Jones Bros as head of business management support, believes there is a bright future for boxing in the region given the assistance Denbigh & District ABC has received.

He continued: “This was a proud moment for us all. We’ve worked hard to get the club to where it is now.

“Seeing our boxers in the ring here in Denbigh and welcoming clubs from across the region shows how far we’ve come.

“Boxing is well and truly back in the town – and with the strength of its club and the support of its community, it looks set to stay.”
