Jones Bros in line for string of awards6th Jun 2012
A family-run civil engineering firm has been nominated for a string of prestigious awards following completion of successful, multi-million pound contracts.
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has won or been nominated for a clutch of major awards by respected construction and environmental bodies, including the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Constructing Excellence in Wales.
The firm was recently awarded the George Gibby Award by ICE, winners with joint venture partners Balfour Beatty and Halcrow and Hyder, for the £35m Porthmadog, Minffordd and Tremadog bypass scheme, carried out on behalf of the Welsh Government.
The Ruthin-based firm has also been named among the top winners in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Awards (RoSPA) 2012 – for the fourth year running.
Jones Bros scooped gold in the annual RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards, which go to firms that demonstrate outstanding health and safety procedures in the workplace and are considered to be a mark of excellence by all sectors in industry.
Award nominations during the next four weeks include:
- The Chartered Institution for Highways & Transportation (CIHT) major projects award for the Porthmadog bypass scheme
- Green Apple environmental award for the Porthmadog scheme
- Constructing Excellence, Integration & Collaborative Working award for the coastal protection scheme in Tywyn, mid Wales. Jones Bros worked with Gwynedd Council and Atkins on the £6.6m coastal protection scheme
- Constructing Excellence – Project of the Year – both Tywyn and Porthmadog bypass project shortlisted
- Constructions News awards, environmental project, Porthmadog scheme

The awards success signals exciting times for the company as it also celebrates winning new contracts across the UK, particularly in waste management and the renewable energy sector, reflecting its growing reputation within the UK’s construction industry.
Its expansion is also a major factor in Jones Bros’ decision to move its head office from its current premises in Denbigh Road, Ruthin, to nearby Trem Clwyd at Canol y Dref later this year.
It has also recently opened new offices in Swansea, Scotland and Oxfordshire and continuesto recruit apprentices at regular intervals.
Jones Bros has been winning an increasing amount of work in Scotland and, in the past two years, has opened two Scottish offices in Linlithgow in 2010 and Inverness in 2011.
Founded in the 1950s and employing 280 people, the company has grown steadily in the last decade. It is currently working on contracts in various sectors including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence and energy projects including renewables around the UK.
