Jones Bros scores ‘excellent’ rating as a considerate constructor28th Feb 2025

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK’s site practices on a multi-million-pound coastal defence project has achieved a rating of ‘excellent’.

The Ruthin-based company was awarded the grade by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) for its initiatives on the £13 million Kinmel Bay development which is set to strengthen the shoreside to help prevent flooding.

To ensure contractors within the construction industry are completing builds in an ethical and responsible manner, the CCS scores schemes across three categories: care for the community, the environment, and the workforce.

Following the latest site visit, Jones Bros achieved a perfect mark of 15 for valuing its staff by effectively managing hazards, offering a range of in-house training opportunities, and sharing mental health resources from Mates in Mind (MIM).

In addition, the civil engineering contractor was rated 13 out of 15 for its respect towards the community and 12 for its consideration of the environment, securing an overall total of 40 out of 45.

Alongside its ‘excellent’ grade, the scheme has made progress towards its scheduled spring 2026 completion by undertaking reinforced concrete pours on two access points which are set to improve entry to the beach.

Excavation work and cutting of the existing sea wall has also taken place on the promenade and Baysville area.

Some 18,250 tonnes of rock armour have been delivered from North Wales quarries to develop the infrastructure, including reinforcing 40m of the revetment.

Senior contract manager Dafydd Ellis said: “We work hard to ensure all our projects meet the highest standards in construction, so to have our efforts recognised by such a high score is very rewarding.

“When undertaking the scheme, we put thorough procedures in place to minimise disruption; for example, we monitor noise levels, upcycle and recycle materials, and keep the public informed through drop-in Q&A events and our on-site visitor information hub.

“Overall, the team is pleased with how the development is progressing and I believe the feedback we’ve received aptly reflects our ongoing commitment to our staff, the environment, and the communities we work with.”

The CCS monitor said: “It was good to note some significant improvements following the advisory visit. The company in general showed an enthusiasm and commitment to the aims of the scheme.”

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.
