Largest wind turbines near completion thanks to Jones Bros24th Jan 2014

A £1.6m wind farm extension project featuring Scotland’s tallest wind turbines is nearing completion, three weeks ahead of schedule.

Jones Bros is close to concluding balance of plant civils and electrical work on the Muirhall 2 project in Carnwath, South Lanarkshire.

The project will see two Repower 3.4MW turbines installed, each measuring 147 metres.

James McColl, Jones Bros’ project manager for the Muirhall wind farm, said: “At almost 150m high, these are the biggest wind turbines in Scotland, and it’s great to be working on this project.

“The work has gone very well, and we’re about three weeks ahead of schedule.

“We’re working on laying the cables for the wind farm at the moment, and the substation is about 80% complete. Jones Bros will also be overseeing the health and safety over the remainder of the project, with the turbines due to be installed in mid-February.

“It’s been a really positive project to work on, and the local community and client have been fantastic to work with.

The pair of new turbines compliment the six existing Repower 2.05MW wind turbines on the Muirhall project, and are capable of generating 6.8MW of electricity per year. The wind farm extension is due for completion in April.
